Here’s a quick intro to an amazing capture right before I released him! Starring me and a young red-headed woodpecker, who wants nothing more than to destroy my hand and go back to acorns.

(Both of his wishes came true, as a matter of fact. An hour later I came back to see him on his larder, faithful as always).

Yes! There’s not context on this post, but the OP is a grad student studying birds and was in the process of helping band them so they can be ID’d at a distance for the rest of the research period. It’s a necessary stressor to avoid more frequent ones. The OP isn’t taunting the bird or antagonizing it, simply restraining it properly for a short video. I’ve queued up a post of theirs next regarding the banding process.
