I don’t mean to be quietly counting lines of dialogue every time a new Vox Machina: Origins comic comes out, but this thing keeps making me want to scream at Scanlan (and his writer) to SHUT UP FOR FIVE SECONDS AND LET LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE TALK multiple times a page at this point.
(At least the second half is moving on to other characters a bit, but I admit I skimmed right past the “watch me be clever” show.)
I’m gettin’ real sick of the “Watch Matt Colville play favorites show!”
Yeah. I’m not enjoying feeling this critical about the comics, but I’m also not enjoying the comics very much at this point. I’ve kept reading because I want to find out how the story comes together, but there’s a lot that’s getting on my nerves.
(To be honest, I was afraid of this going in. Matt Coville started rubbing me the wrong way a long while ago for kind of subtle reasons that I felt like I was overreacting to, but…it keeps building up.)
I used to like his videos. He has a different approach to D&D than I do, but he was very helpful starting out. Then he started shit-talking during the Vecna fight and posted his own video about how he would have done it before the body was cold, which is just not cool.
(I love how Brian made a joke on Talks about it some time after though. Brian is a gift.)
I haven’t read any of his books, but something tells me he is just the next in a long line of writers who talk the talk about diversity and inclusion and that we need to treat female characters better and all that, but is almost hilariously unable to walk the walk.
