It’s probably worth noting too that despite both disliking rich or powerful people, Caleb and Mollymauk had widely different reactions to Jester’s issue.

Caleb, as part of his social awkwardness and survival-driven mentality, offered an immediate solution of giving her money but also dismissed her feelings on the issue by comparing them to his own experiences with money.

Molly, on the other hand, simply offered reassurance “I’m sure it’ll come… Not that it matters if it doesn’t” and his comparison to her situation was more empathic by putting them both in a similar level “sometimes I expect things and they don’t arrive but that’s alright” rather than valuing his own struggles as greater than hers.

Though both were trying to help, their outlooks in life and their approach amounted to very different dynamics and reactions from Jester, and I think it helps to put that into perspective when we talk about why she acted as she did in that first conversation.

At the very least, it’s a very interesting contrast in the group dynamics.
