I am too tired to make a coherent post about this right now but. Ehhhh.
Can we start, like, reexamining these old-as-Tolkein’s-balls tropes about always-evil (or always evil with one “noble” exception) characters? They come from ugly orientalist mindsets and they are stale as Fuck. Terry Pratchett is turning in his grave.
I love Nott dearly and Sam is a really smart player and Matt is good at finding interesting things to do with his players’ backstories so like. I’m gonna have patience with the thing. Maybe he has a point to make. But. I’m tired.
Yeah I’m not wild about the “all X people are evil monsters … but you’re one of the good ones” angle he’s got going on there with Nott, that racist trope has no place in 2018.
Last campaign Sam played a character who hated goblins and would kill them on sight. This campaign, Sam is playing a goblin who hates goblins and will kill them on sight. I really hope there’s more exploration here this time around.
