It’s important to note in that skit that John DOES make fun of his wife, but he

1. Got her explicit permission

2. NONE of it is about how he dislikes her or things he doesn’t like about her. They’re about the funny, little things she does and he notices about her— OR it’s the “my wife is a bitch and I love her SO much (for it)”

3. He uses her in a way that is POSITIVE in his jokes, like the Delta Airlines joke where she is a problem solver and has “standards for how he should be treated”

So you CAN playfully make jokes about your spouse, but the crucial difference is that they’re made out of love and true fondness for the other person and are NEVER mean spirited or done without permission. Everything comes back to how he loves her and that he implies these things make his everyday life interesting or funny.
