are they..seriously gonna to hire a companion to babysit kiri??
I’m unclear why everyone is acting horrified by this idea. Sex workers are people too. It’s not like the M9 were proposing leaving Kiri with, IDK, a ravenous gnoll or something. They were thinking about hiring an adult and paying them money to stay in a room and keep an eye on a kid. Plenty of people do that all the damn time, it’s called hiring a babysitter.
So long as the M9 ask “hey are you comfortable with children?” watching a kid for a few hours, probably chatting with Kiri while she learns new things to mimic, or reading a book in the corner and looking up every so often, is not asking a lot of someone if you’re paying them.
#my feelings exactly #it would not benefit a paid companion to harm a kenku child they were paid to watch #and they would be no worse an influence on kiri than jester or any of the others #it was a good idea! (via @wholeneinyards)
Yeah like … within minutes of meeting her the M9 gave Kiri, whose age is a bit hard to discern but is definitely a child of some kind, a very sharp knife. Within a few hours they were in a bar with her. (This is not unusual in cultures with pubs, but to Americans this is shocking or even illegal behavior to bring a kid into a bar.) By nightfall, Jester was telling her the cliffnotes version of an erotica novel. Then they took her with them on a dangerous mission where the team almost died several times.
Sticking Kiri in a room with someone whose job just so happens to be sex work, would have been one of the more responsible things they’ve done in regards to caring for this child so far. It’s not like they said “hey Kiri can stay in the corner while the sex worker is entertaining guests” or something. They were gonna pay an adult to watch a kid for a while. Who gives a fuck what that person’s normal job is?!
Also noteworthy but sex work in the Empire is apparently perfectly legal, seeing as nobody is acting like it’s unusual or something to keep quiet. The stigma of “ooooo, this person’s job is ~illegal activity~” does not seem to exist in the Empire. Jester’s own mother is a sex worker and she brags about it. Meanwhile, the M9 are a bunch of renegades, wanted criminals, and/or worshippers of illegal gods, who work for a mob boss. A law-abiding citizen with a stable job is somehow *worse* of a guardian of Kiri than the M9? Really? Really now?
Seriously, guys, we should just all be glad they thought of hiring a sitter AT ALL. Praise them. Gently remind the cast that this was a good idea. Positive reinforcement. It is now up to ALL OF US to keep the 6 HP Bird Child alive.
