I’ve seen several people being like “ummmmmmmmmmm nobody was mad that a cis man playing a pre op trans woman on oitnb” it was literally Laverne’s twin brother who she personally asked to do it so as not to trigger her dysphoria like do you not see how that’s an entirely different situation

And the funny thing is, it apparently was actually a compromise between Laverne and the production. Production didn’t want her to do it so as to not trigger her, while Laverne was absolutely willing to give it a try, because she’s an actress, that’s what she does.

Yeah I saw her speak about this at my college a few years back, she said the production was very concerned about the process being upsetting for her, and she was like “no I’m an actor I got this” and tried … and then watched the footage and realized it just wasn’t working, so she said ok and they called in her twin brother.
