butchsides:

i haven’t seen anyone make one of these yet so from ur local lucky nyc vip ticket holder, here are the big points i remember from the exclusive talks machina panel!!!

  • none of the microphones at the table were working yet, so the cast all came down to sit on the edge of the stage and passed a microphone around. i was in the front row and this was extremely cool.
  • sam’s mom is here. she’s very interested in the ruby of the sea. this causes sam unimaginable pain at several points during the panel.
  • if matt could play a character in the mighty nein’s game, he’d want to play a dwarf bard. he says he’s always loved dwarves and bards, but never felt like a character like that would fit into vox machina, but the mighty nein “could really use a bard”
  • the idea of the m9 starting their own magic academy after their adventuring days are over is thrown around. travis is asked what he’d teach; someone shouts “SAILING!” travis immediately demands to know who said sailing, while matt immediately retrieves the Idiot’s Guide To Sailing from the table and shoves it into travis’s hands.
  • matt is still planning on getting a tattoo honoring mollymauk, as he apparently mentioned at a previous panel – he just hasn’t had a chance to work up a design yet.
  • sam walked off stage at one point after being publicly shamed for not knowing where romania was. he thought it was next to turkey.
  • momlan loves us. momlan does not really understand d&d (she says she bought a book called “dungeons and dragons for dummies” and replaced the D with an M to read “dungeons and dragons for mummies”) but says that sam is helping her learn. sam thinks she’s a natural performer and would make an amazing bard.
  • one time sam’s wife, quyen tran, mentioned at work that her husband played d&d professionally. one of her co-workers scoffed “you can’t do that” and then asked “what is he, on critical role?” quyen responded that yes, he is, and he plays scanlan! and the coworker fainted.
  • brian cannot answer a question about signature cocktails for members of the mighty nein and vox machina. he says we will understand why soon.
  • matt’s favorite of his villains to play was delilah briarwood, and lists her as the only one of his villains who he finds sympathetic. he says he also really loved playing raishan, but did not sympathise at all with her.
  • matt is asked to recall times where, rather than taking his plans off the rails, his players’ actions played out exactly as he’d imagined them. he lists the acid trap in the briarwoods arc, saying it was a complicated set up and he wasn’t sure how it would work out – but it ended up going even better than he’d pictured, because one of his players even pulled the acid lever for him!
  • an audience member asks if the human and half-elf couple seen briefly in hupperdook could have been percy and vex. matt says it was not, saying they’re occupied with other things. laura immediately begins miming sex with her fingers.
  • laura and taliesin have, in fact, talked about names for their five children, but laura could not fucking remember any of them on the spot. aside from percival 4, she did confirm that percy and vex have a daughter named madeleine.
  • taliesin does have moments where he wishes he could play or react as molly – in particular, he mentions the sequence where jester defaces the statue of bahamut, saying “i could’ve made that so much worse.” all the same, he says he doesn’t feel he’s lost molly in the way the fans have, because molly is still a strong presence in his head, just as much as he was before they started campaign 2 and the whole time he was playing him. he does add that “if people ever stop drawing molly i’ll have a panic attack.”

i’ll rb this and add more if i remember more. anyone else who was at the live show vip panel is welcome to add as well!!!
