“omg! a new history of-” siiiiighhh

theres a rape joke in the fucking new video more clear than the last you keep that fucking bullshit off my dash im not even joking right now i wont hesitate

white people trying to distract from the realities of africas suffering: “HGSJSDJ THE NEW :HISTORY OF” VIDEO HAS A RAPE JOKE. DONT WATCH IT”

yall literally went to africa and raped people. thats not a joke, its what yall did. shut up.

It was LITERALLY a rape of Africa- Europeans raped several cultures and countries. They went in, destroying culture dynamics, exterminated tribes, stole and raped and murdered and plundered and did everything disgusting and terrible.

I’m glad he called it for what it was. It wasn’t a fuckin joke m8.

This isn’t even him going out on a limb with his phrasing. This part of history is commonly, academically referred to as “the rape of Africa,” like “the rape of Nanking” or “the rape of Belgium.” That’s just…what it’s called.

he’s–making a reference to the academic concept. this isn’t your college buddy saying he got “totally raped” playing Halo last night, “the rape of Africa” is a phrase used in the explicit discussion of imperialist atrocities. a quick google will pull up everything from anti-colonialist art to books on King Leopold II’s crimes in the Congo; this information is literally at your fingertips, don’t start a witch hunt because you didn’t take the time to do a goddamn internet search.

This reminds me of a party I went to last year. I was standing with some friends, chatting, and someone said something that indirectly implied that sexism exists. Some trivial recounting of the basic facts of daily life for most women. Something so mild, so uncontroversial, so mundane that I don’t even remember what it was.

Suddenly, this man standing on the outskirts of our conversational circle piped up with “actually, I think men are more discriminated against than women these days.”

 All conversation died.

I turned to look at him and he had this smug, insufferable grin on his face, relishing this moment, expecting us to waste our time and energy refuting this ridiculous thing he had just said.

The Devil’s Advocate was among us.

And, in my mind, I saw the next 15+ minutes playing out. The parade of facts and statistics in a vain attempt to defend ourselves, our gender, and to prove that misogyny is real. The glib, snide denials from some shithead who is getting off on our pain and frustration. The Gish Gallop of bullshit that would take a whole evening to properly dismantle. It was depressing and overwhelming. I hated it. I had to kill it before it began.

So I looked him dead in the eye and I said “OK,“ shrugged, and just walked away.

Nothing I have ever said to another human being has ever been so crushing. As I walked away, I watched the smug grin vanish and confusion and anxiety set in. The rest of the group turned their backs to him and carried on as if he had never spoken – as if he was invisible. He was still staring at me when I walked over to another friend and told her what he had said. I pointed him out for her and made direct eye contact with him while we both laughed.

tl;dr: Don’t feed the troll. Let it perish, cold and hungry, in the wasteland of your indifference. It is weak and you are strong. Live your best life.

Dude have you seen Garnet fighting?

She is clearly more dangerous than a bunch of rocks

But isn’t garnet just….
A bunch of rocks?

Maybe since Peridots aren’t made for combat they’re designed to poof faster if they’re being attacked by another gem in the hopes that their gems will be left alone. They don’t poof very easily when taking damage from non-gem sources because its assumed support will be there in a minute or two to help them out during construction projects/kindergarden related tasks.

Makes sense! They’re engineers so they’re expected to take a few hard knocks. Susceptibility to gem weaponry might be intended to prevent rebellion of the technical caste.

Actually… have we seen a gem ever be poofed by something that wasn’t by the direct action of another gem?

Oh woah

amethyst falls off a cliff and only scratches her gem, but gets poofed by jasper’s attack, i think it was a kick or a headbutt? actually, if you think about gems who have taken the most direct damage from other gems, pearl wins so far. she got kicked around like a sportsball by sugillite, one of the very strongest gem fusions, and didn’t poof.

perhaps if technician gems like peridot are meant to buckle quickly in combat situations, pearls are meant to hold up under whatever physical abuse their much, much larger superiors dish out. i don’t think a diamond or high-ranking quartz would be pleased with a toy that snaps the first time they smack it, and doesn’t regenerate for weeks.

imagine younger pearl realizing that how much abuse she was built to take could actually be a huge asset in battle, and let her face down gems ten times her size. imagine frustrated quartzes realizing this too

“…and her terrifying renegade Pearl.”

TIL that virtually all Middle Ages scholars believed that the Earth is spherical. The myth that people in the Middle Ages thought the earth is flat appears to date from the 17th century as part of the campaign by Protestants against Catholic teaching.
