Sleep-deprived and spoilery ramblings

You know what, I’m actually kinda proud of the M9 this week.

Like, when the plank king asked them why they chose to sail the seas, become pirates, and end up at his place, the honest answer would be “because we make horrible decisions, escalate the situation rather than face the consequences, and once we’re committed, we go all in and don’t know how to back down.” That… Is the story of how they basically got into and out of all story arcs so far. And the clusterfuck that was them getting into this whole pirate business by stealing the ship in the first place was probably the most egregious example.

Come to think of it, “because we’re idiots who make horrible life choices” would have been a great answer in pirate court.

Anyway, my point is, this is the first time in this campaign when they actually didn’t unnecessarily escalate the bad situation they were in. Well, except for Caleb, of course. They could probably have parted with the pirate city on better terms than they did if he’d just behaved, but hey, it’s just Liam doing Liam things at this point, and on the grand scale of things, it wasn’t even close to double-crossing an ancient dragon with 3 party members present without a rest after fighting another ancient dragon, so we should all really count our blessings.

But all in all, I’m really proud. They understood their limitations, somewhat, stuck to the decent part of their initial plan, mostly, and got the hell out of dodge of a situation that was completely beyond their control. And it worked! Nicely done, people.

It is kind of a shame about Avantika, that’s for sure, she was… Fascinating. Honestly, the most fascinating thing was how me and my friends were panicking about Beau lying in pirate court, and then Avantika just came in and lied more and worse. And the power play with Beau’s punches of truth… Rrrrr.

Also, her death felt a little like Lorenzo’s; kind of premature, definitely not what Matt had planned, but probably for the greater good. Girl was unhinged. I’m kinda glad we don’t have to wait for her to turn into PotC3 Calypso or something. The larger plot isn’t going away any time soon, either, so hey.

And much like Lorenzo, the party completely legitimately outplayed her in a way that made it impossible for Matt not to give them the ending they got. That’s another thing. They’re learning. And I’m looking forward to how Matt has to design future arc villains if he wants them to survive the first few encounters.

I have been with this show through any number of variations on Scottish or posh British accents, that time they went to fantasy Arabia, I have never had an issue with anyone going Texan or vaguely Eastern European or Pretend Irish and even the German has grown on me. But this new pirate person finally has an accent that I can’t deal with. I understand about half of what he’s saying and what is he supposed to be

Hi Jana,

All orders made from the UK
store will arrive much quicker than the US store. International orders
from the US can take up to 4 weeks to receive. Additionally, we can’t
guarantee that the order will not get delayed in customs and potentially
be subject to charges. Depending where you are in Europe it might make
sense to order from the US store if you’re willing to wait. Let us know
if you have any other questions.

Best,
Ed

So the $35 that they charge more for the UK book is, essentially, paying for faster and more secure shipping. Is anyone else failing to see how opening the UK store is gonna be profitable at all? Like, most people I know are gonna wait 4 weeks for their stuff if the alternative is having to spend $35 more. There’s a reason we were all excited about lower shipping costs. Nobody likes shipping costs.

Attention, Euro Critters!

While I’m as excited about the new UK based Critical Role store as the next gal, just, well, make informed choices, fam.

(Shipping costs calculated for cheapest options to ship to Germany. Maybe US shipping to your country is so immense that ordering from the UK store is worth it, maybe not. Educate yourself!)

Chapter 2: The Bathtub

Length: About 4k words

Happy birthday, @notaficwriter! Have some porn. Also a happy birthday month to @pagerunner-j and @out-there-on-the-maroon. Yay for arbitrary deadlines! And a happy birthday to myself tomorrow. My present to myself is positive attention. I hope. Or just the satisfaction of having finished a chapter, I guess.

“Oh, hello there, darling,” Vex greets him as she approaches the
giant-ass tub he has all to himself, filled to the brim with steaming hot water
that smells faintly like strawberries. “Fancy meeting you here.”

“Who’d have thought,” he agrees, trying to sound nonchalant, probably,
but his tone has a slight tinge of both trepidation and reverence to it – both
things she heard in his voice the night before, though something tells her the
trepidation is entirely unrelated to her naked body this time, mostly due to
the fact that she hasn’t even revealed it yet.

Well. It might be somewhat related to the burns and bruises scattered
over her body from where the meteors had hit her, the large patch of dry and
cracked skin on her side, and angry red marks burned into her skin from where
the poison breath had hit her before killing her. She’s not sure, but
considering how she still has an impact scar tinged with green at the center of
her chest, maybe healing magic doesn’t quite get rid of the marks of fatal
attacks. Nine hells, she still has bite and claw marks from the pit fiend that
haven’t quite healed over yet.

And Percy still has every single scar caused by Ripley’s bullets on his
chest.

“Yeah, you know…” She drawls out as she drops her bathrobe, still a few
feet away from the tub. “I could have gotten my own tub, but that just felt
incredibly lonely somehow.”

“Understandable,” Percy says, his eyes following her robe down her body,
but catching on the new scars and bruises courtesy of both Thordak and Raishan,
but mostly Raishan. “It’s also just more efficient to share. Saves water. And
time.”
