Because everyone is doing it. Here’s a few thoughts:

  1. My first thought was Liam, but by now we all seem to be in agreement it’s Taliesin. I want him to play a warlock so he can be as creepy as he wants to be. Bard is a reasonable alternative; judging from the cleric he played in the Hearthstone OS, he enjoys playing support classes.
  2. Marisha. Half-elf, elf, genasi, reasonably small human. I don’t see her going Aasimar, really.  Also monk, obviously.
  3. Liam. Half-orc Fighter of some sort. Because it is the most straight-forward class with usually the least complicated math. Yes, really, this is what I’m basing this on.
  4. Travis. Cleric or another full caster. We know that he and Laura were fighting over who gets to be the cleric. Though the thing at the bottom irritates me. Is it a weirdly worn, very modern guitar? A weird gun? A really weird weapon from an evil god or something? Also race is human, probably. Though for a while I thought this one had webbed ears and was a water genasi. That’d be neat.
  5. Sam. Kobold Rogue. Arcane Trickster. Yes, him going for the shortest character again is redundant, but kobolds are amazing arcane tricksters and arcane trickster is like THE class for Sam, after bard.
  6. Laura. Tiefling cleric/wizard/sorcerer. Because she either wanted to be a cleric or a full caster. I hope she’s a favored soul sorcerer.
  7. Ashley, Barbarian or Druid, probably some sort of genasi, too. Earth genasi are cool as barbarians.

Decent spread we have in any case and only deviates somewhat from what I’ve been wanting to see:

  • I personally would have wanted for Taliesin and Marisha to play siblings this time, with him as a fey warlock who constantly gets into trouble and her the exasperated older monk sister who has to beat their way out of trouble.
  • I would love for Travis to play a paladin who isn’t too bound by WoW conventions like he was for the Hearthstone OS. I dunno, Paladin just seems like THE class for him.
  • Marisha would have made a good Barbarian as well, and Liam a good monk.
  • I was also low key hoping for Sam to be the cleric, I think he’d be a creat preparation caster in general. Cleric or Druid. But Arcane Trickster, man. Sam is the perfect Arcane Trickster.
  • Taliesin would have been a good cleric as well, as mentioned above, he seems to like playing support classes and he was pretty good at pointing out when someone needed healing.
  • Ashley is probably best suited as someone who comes in and deals an obscene amount of damage and leaves. So barbarian, rogue, druid, and kind of full arcane caster… All good options for her.
  • Laura as a bard for eternal delight, but I don’t think she’d like the pressure of having to sing or be witty on the spot. Any other charisma caster would be nice, too. Though I will say I enjoyed her cute but socially awkward nerd wizard from the Hearthstone OS immensely, that’d have been neat as well. Still might be! The sheep horn tiefling looks like she might have glasses.

I’m massively side-eyeing everyone acting surprised that Vex would have left VM with her brother had he chosen to do so around episode 39. Like. Guys. How was that ever even a question? She would have fought him over it, because VM meant financial stability and a pretty decent roof above their head, but of course she would have left with him. Of course.

Well, and isn’t it funny how everyone got these deep questions about their characters and backstories and futures and feelings, and Vex got like, so you like bad boys, so how are things with your dad, so how are things with your boyfriend, so how does your brother feel about things with your boyfriend, and btw remember broom gate? And by funny I mean fucking infuriating and so, so much like everything that came before.

And let’s be real, this is how the Perc’ahlia break up went.

  • Someone panicked in the morning, argument ensued, emotionally constipated people decide to split up, maybe
  • Percy moodily moves back into the castle, Cassandra is very concerned
  • He mopes off into his workshop
  • Vex goes hunting to blow off some steam
  • Vex comes back to blow off some more steam in the form of break up sex
  • They traumatize a few choice members of the castle staff by leaving the door open
  • They also realize they’re being dumb and stop
  • Percy moves back into Vex’s house by sunset. Cassandra is mildly annoyed.

So chances are we will find out who Pike’s secret love interest has been all along tonight. Last chance to get in your bets! Here’s the options. As I see them, at least.

  1. Random NPC from her backstory/Sailing days. Early on, I was actually considering Tristan the Cleric from the Sarenrae temple in Emon would be it, because he reacted kinda flustered when Pike was mentioned, alllll the way back in episode 25. But if it were an NPC, what’s all the fuss about, really, why never mention it, why would saying it now be awkward? Doesn’t add up. But is the most diplomatic solution, which I appreciate!
  2. Grog. Because. I dunno, they’re close? Never saw their relationship that way, way too fraternal and all that, but it could happen! And boy would that be a twist.
  3. Keyleth. This one came up after Pike kissed her on the forehead after being feebleminded by Lady Briarwood and then cured by Keyleth, in kind of a parallel to the Kimallura smooch, I guess. Also Keyleth is amazing, just in general.
  4. Vex. Because if how Pike was flushed after Vex hugged her naked the episode the secret love interest was a big point of conversation in. Also Laura is famously the only one (besides Brian, I guess) who knows about it… Which is both a point in favor or against, when you think about it. There’s also the time Pike was one of the first to be drunkenly blubbering about how amazing Vex is, but she was joined in by literally everyone, and, I mean, come on. It’s Vex. Being into her is just good taste.
  5. Percy. This is probably the most common assumption around, not helped by the fact that the debate was started around the time when Perc’ahlia started, I dunno, becoming obvious? Ashley has also hinted that the window of opportunity to confess has slipped away, indicating that the person in question is now taken. And while that also applies to Vex and Keyleth, here is where I see it the most brought up. She also gave Percy the bamf back to life necklace in the same episode the secret love interest was mentioned first. She has a song for him on her single playlist. And then there’s the time Ashley and Taliesin were both on Talks together, Brian brought up the secret love interest, and Ashley was very put-out by him mentioning it again. I can see why people think this is it. But. Well.
  6. Vax. Liam was the other guest at that Talks episode I just mentioned. Ashley had a song for Percy on her playlist, and a song for the person Pike was secretly in love with. Ashley also mentioned that something happened pre-stream, and we only know about Pike and Vax spending a lot of time alone together pre-stream. I think they had a session with just the two of them and Matt, once? When the party got split up? Also, by the time the secret love interest came up, Perc’ahlia was just like, apparent to people who had witnessed a whole lot of smaller moments and a reliable set of shipping goggles, and for many of these moments, Ashley simply wasn’t at the table. On the other hand, Vaxleth had been a… Thing. One way or the other. For a long time. Then there’s the fact that on the stream, Vax is probably the person Pike has the most scenes with after Grog and Scanlan. And they’re always had a bit of a special relationship. I dunno, it always made more sense to me than aynthing else, especially with the scene with the bench and the wolf at the end?

So yeah, my money’s on Vax, though there’s points in favor and against pretty much everyone on the list. And the great thing is that this will all be resolved tonight! Probably. Hopefully. Please.

Travis on Talks Machina offering people to maybe write him the hate mail they were going to send to Marisha because for some reason, he’s never gotten any, might have been the highlight of that Talks episode.

Well, that and “Manners is not just a ball I throw at people”.

Or the fact that Brian actively told people to quit watching the show because Marisha isn’t going anywhere.
