It’s really important to me that you did not name one of the children after Vax. I think it is the instinct of people to do that, and I don’t think Vex would ever put that on someone. I think the only Vax that she will ever know is in the temple where she goes to talk, and the ravens she always feeds (it is illegal, in the Whitestone in my head, to kill a raven)

right??? i’m usually not as a rule a fan of the dead guy junior trope (one of several reasons that i have become…. not a fan. of the harry potter epilogue) because god it just seems like such a burden to put on a kid?? so much expectation and so much to live up to right from the start? with elaina i felt like it was more honoring vex’s mom and giving her a place in her children’s heritage, but i agree, i don’t think they’d name one of their kids after vax. maybe their kids will name a grandbaby, or a great-grandbaby, after him, years and years down the line, but i think for vex and percy it’s still too fresh.

Scholars of Tal’dorei history are uncertain as to where the archaic and somewhat nonsensical law against killing a raven within the bounds of Whitestone came from. Most sources date it back to around the time of De Rolo Restoration, but its true origins remain a source of much debate in academic circles.

(by which i mean: i love this very very much.)

Thank you!

Also I feel like naming a kid after Vax would mean they have accepted that he’s gone and this is just what you do now. And seeing how they both refuse to accept how this worked out, I don’t see them doing this.

Naming a kid Elaina however is kind of percetly appropriate – if only to annoy Vex’s father, which is basically their favorite hobby at this point.
