So Caleb gave Beau a spell that made her kick Jester’s ass (literally) and then refused to change Frumpkin until Fjord asked to (for you, Fjord, I will) and he called her “the blue one” the whole time…
up to the point where Jester said “Caleb hates me” and he seemed surprised by how sensitive she is… like he thinks she’s this unmovable force of happiness unaffected by what people think of her, clearly not realizing Jester’s huge need to be loved and accepted, and how most of her cheerfulness is a way to hide her pain…
…but despite everything the moment he was “down” Jester freaked out, crying and trying to save him while he played death, she dragged him across the battlefield and was attacked by a bunch of wolves in the process…
…and I kinda feel he should either apologize or make an effort to be nicer to her…
I’m pretty sure most of it was Liam, out of character, liking to mess with Laura. In-game I think the haste thing was to reinforce his new bond with Beau. Caleb revealed some very personal information to her earlier and she’s kept that secret for him, so he wanted to let her know he appreciates that … without saying “thank you” because this is Caleb and he’d rather do something/demonstrate something than just say the words “thank you.” He feels he has to back up commitments with action.
However, in-game, Jester doesn’t know any of this. She thinks Caleb was being rude and mean to her and she has no idea why and it hurts. At best, Caleb doesn’t even realize he was being rude to her and now she’s upset, at worst he was doing it intentionally, neither of which is a good thing in Jester’s eyes.
I hope this gets followed up on and developed more as the show goes on. Their characters contrast so well and this is no doubt gonna lead to more misunderstandings along the way.
