Dontos2 Littlefinger says he sold Sansa, but he IS from a culture where people expect rewards, like the North lords who are sincere in their Stark-loyalty, but still try to cash in on their service. Maybe LF had already convinced him that Sansa was safer if he stayed behind and there was no connection. LF has a lot of motive to lie, because of his agenda of breaking her idealism & making her dependent, and Dontos really tried to protect her from Joffrey. I doubt LF expected him to prevent abuse.
I’m sorry to say that no, I do not find that plausible. Littlefinger might be a liar, but it doesn’t follow from that fact that he’s lying to Sansa in that instance. And we see plenty to indicate that Dontos’ interest in Sansa is not so selfless.
Regarding his personal interest in her, Dontos gets handsier when he’s drunk, he gets in Sansa’s face to the point where she can smell his breath, he appeals to the romance of Florian and Jonquil to gain her trust…
And yeah, he’s also clearly gaslighting Sansa. Here’s one good example:
“I will be safe in Highgarden. Willas will keep me safe.”
“But he does not know you,” Dontos insisted, “and he will not love you. Jonquil, Jonquil, open your sweet eyes, these Tyrells care nothing for you. It’s your claim they mean to wed.”
– Sansa II, ASoS
What does Dontos know about Willas Tyrell? How can he be so certain that Willas will never come to love Sansa? That line is designed to get her to mistrust others, as well as her own read of the situation. He can be sincere in his belief that going home is better than a suspect marriage and he can gaslight her over the issue. Likewise, he can make every effort he can to protect her from Joffrey and he can sell her to Littlefinger. Speaking of, we can be reasonably sure he was reporting on her to Littlefinger against Sansa’s immediate interests.
When Lord Tywin nodded, he continued. “And there is this—Lord Petyr continues to demonstrate his loyalty. Only yesterday he brought us word of a Tyrell plot to spirit Sansa Stark off to Highgarden for a ‘visit,’ and there marry her to Lord Mace’s eldest son, Willas.”
– Tyrion III, ASoS
This is shortly after Sansa passes that information on to Dontos.
So, yeah, I’m sorry, but Dontos is just another person on the long list of people in King’s Landing that Sansa cannot trust as wholly as she might like. And another person creeping on her, too.

So let me get this clear. Last campaign when percy made a snobbish comment we called him charming – but now jester makes one and she’s ignorant and a hater of the working class? OH WELL.
This campaign we side with poor boy Caleb who (allegedly, because he’s a shady motherfucker and I don’t trust anything he says) grew up with little money and is very stingy about it.
Last campaign, Vex, who grew up in poverty before and after Syngorn and had to make ends meet while on the road with her brother for years, was the greediest bitch of the universe for trying to get the most out of their money and be careful about spending.
